French toast has been a recipe since the dawn of time... or almost! Apparently, the Romans were crazy about this waste-free dish. Back then, stale bread was dipped in fried milk, oil, and topped with honey for a sweet touch. So, it wasn't that far from the current recipe from Les 2 Marmottes. A few details aside!
It's not just marmots who love infusions . Great chefs and pastry chefs from around the world are also won over by this technique, which involves flavoring a liquid with plants or spices.
When they simmer a homemade broth or concoct a sauce with saffron threads, they use the infusion to add flavor to their recipes.
La Popote des Marmottes already used the technique in our black tea pancake recipe
That's exactly what we're offering you to do again with our slightly revisited gourmet French toast: infuse an Apple-Cinnamon infusion bag in milk. It's your turn!
Discover Apple-Cinnamon To make our apple and cinnamon French toast recipe , you will need:
For 4 people
- 1 bag of Apple-Cinnamon herbal tea
- 75g of cane sugar
- 25 cl of lukewarm milk
- 3 eggs
- 6 slices of bread or brioche
- A little neutral oil or butter for cooking
- 1 cinnamon stick for decoration (or ground cinnamon)
Start by infusing a bag of our Apple-Cinnamon infusion in the milk for 5 minutes.
Beat the eggs, add the sugar and then the flavored milk.
Dip your slices of bread into the mixture, making sure to soak them well.
Place the slices in a very hot oiled pan.
After a few seconds, turn them over so that they are golden brown on all sides.
In the world of cake-infusion pairings, there are two schools of thought: the "wise" who rely on a flavor close to that found in the recipe and the "risk-takers", who are fans of sometimes disconcerting variations.
For the former, we'll stick to the rules with a cup of Apple-Cinnamon infusion ; it will perfectly echo the delicious aromas of our French toast. You can also try a hot apple juice with spices . If it's the fruity side that's what you're looking for, then our Mixed Fruits recipe will certainly be able to stand out: its little tangy touch will also be just the thing! A green tea will also do the trick perfectly.
For adventurers of the day or of all time, we will go completely off the beaten track with a Mint-Licorice infusion . Finally, to reinforce the spicy side, nothing is stopping you from trying the Infusion des Marmottes : its cocktail of 7 plants will bring a nice complexity to this cult dessert. Word of the Romans!
