Liquorice

This plant has a wonderful story to tell, it also has rhizomes - horizontal underground stems - and a whole host of benefits.

What are the benefits of liquorice in herbal tea?

It is traditionally used to relieve sore throats, coughs, stomach aches, joint pains and chronic fatigue: wow, it's everywhere! It is one of the most widely used medicinal plants in the world.

According to our friend Hippocrates (and in Chinese medicine), it is even an elixir for long life.

And to make matters worse, liquorice is also refreshing and tasty! That's liquorice for you - a feel good tasty substance.

Be careful though, if you suffer from high blood pressure or you're pregnant: seek advice from a health professional.

SUPERSTAR INFUSION:⭐ mint liquorice ⭐

The freshness of peppermint and sweet mint combine with the woody flavour of liquorice to form a striking pairing in this ultra-chic herbal tea!

What kind of liquorice is used in Les 2 Marmottes herbal teas?

Often considered a delicacy (and rightly so!), liquorice contains glycyrrhizic acid, a constituent fifty times sweeter than sugar!

But beyond its sweet taste, liquorice is a precious plant whose rhizomes have been used for thousands of years in Europe and Asia.

Harvested in the autumn, they are then dried and selected by our brewmasters in our factory in Bons-en-Chablais, Haute-Savoie.

In which recipes do our brewmasters use liquorice?

Although it is frequently found in Southern Europe and Asia, it is best enjoyed in our organic Mint Liquorice herbal tea! A winning pairing that's perfect for sweet lovers and can be enjoyed hot or cold.

At Les 2 Marmottes, liquorice has also found its way into our Lord & Lady Lemongrass tea. Alongside plants with powerful flavours such as lemongrass, lavender or ginger, it's a sure-fire way to create a long-lasting taste.

In Cheeky Cocoa our brewmasters have chosen liquorice to give a full-bodied,  sweet touch to this 100% organic tea.

The same battle is waged in chai tea, where the liquorice comes to fruition at the end of your sip!
