In our recipes, you won't find any essential oils, plant extracts, or natural or synthetic flavors. Derived from a plant concentrate or produced by bacteria sometimes light years away from the original plant, these flavors will boost—and often distort—the true taste of the plants. At the burrow, we're not fans of them!

Our master infusers use only leaves, seeds, and petals from plants carefully selected in their native regions for their flavor and aroma. The result: simple ingredient lists with 100% natural flavors.

By choosing herbal teas or teas without added flavors, get closer to nature and rediscover the pleasure of simple things with all the subtlety and finesse of plants. Our palates are so accustomed to aromas that it is sometimes difficult to get used to the natural taste of plants again.

To begin, the marmots advise you to start with infusion recipes that use a single, easily recognizable plant (for example, pure thyme herbal tea or 100% verbena herbal tea). These familiar flavors, which you have probably already encountered, will provide you with an easy basis for comparison. Take the time to discover the scent of the plant by smell, by smelling the infuser before immersing it in hot water, and then once the bag is in the cup.

Then move on to recipes that use the most powerfully aromatic plants with easily identifiable scents: for example, thyme, cinnamon, and hibiscus have strong, flavorful notes.

Finish with recipes that use fruit (the whole dried fruit or the zest). Fruit flavor is often obtained commercially through flavorings, and differs greatly from the authentic taste of peel, zest, and dried fruit alone. Our fruit infusions and teas are therefore more subtle than what "lemon" or "red fruit" flavors might be used to...

Additional tips to really get a feel for the taste of plants at the beginning:

- you can let the herbal tea bag infuse a little longer to increase the concentration of the plant's aromas (avoid with tea, which can become too tannic)

- sugar or honey (in small quantities!) can also serve as a flavor enhancer in the early stages. It will enhance the aroma of the plants, if you don't use too much... Milk or flavored syrups, on the other hand, should be avoided.
