Turmeric

Turmeric is a perennial plant that grows in Asia. It's the roots - or rhizomes - that are used. Les 2 Marmottes travelled all the way to India to find the plants needed for our detox infusion. In India, the bright colour of turmeric brings luck, and thus a spot of it is placed on the foreheads of newborns.

What are the benefits of turmeric in infusions?

Used for centuries in Asia, turmeric, also referred to as 'Indian saffron', contributes to the proper functioning of the liver and gallbladder.

The beneficial effects of turmeric on the body have long been proven.

What kind of turmeric is used in Les 2 Marmottes infusions?

Along with its many benefits, it also provides a lovely colour. It's used in cooking to give a beautiful yellow-orange colour to certain exotic dishes and of course for its intense peppery and muscat taste.

We couldn't have curry without turmeric, which gives the characteristic colour to this spice blend that is used around the world.

The challenge for our brewmasters was to find a way to cut the hard turmeric 'fingers' into 1.5 mm pieces, the size of the 'teabag cut', which maximises the spread of its flavour and beneficial properties in the hot water.

In which recipes do our brewmasters use turmeric?

Turmeric is, naturally, found in Les 2 Marmottes' Detox and You brew.

The root is processed whole in our workshops, which gives our house infusion its beautiful orange colour.
