Tisane au thym : pourquoi est-elle aussi efficace ?

Thyme is not new! Born from the tears of the beautiful Helen, Queen of Sparta, whose abduction by Paris triggered the Trojan War, this aromatic herb entered into legend a long time ago. A star of ancient Rome, thyme was dried and then burned to protect against evil spirits in places of worship or in front of the house, thus ensuring wealth and a long life. Among its many virtues, the one that interests us today is its beneficial effect on the respiratory tract and throat . Come on, let's breathe and make the introductions!

When autumn begins to show its face and brings with it the first ailments of winter , it is high time to ask plants for help. On the podium of pretty shoots beneficial for the respiratory tract and throat, we find sage , sparkling ginger and the essential thyme .

With its robust taste and intense flavors, thyme isn't the kind of plant that will mess you up. On the contrary: it's a plant determined to become your best ally this winter! Thanks to its exceptional qualities, thyme helps combat the ills of the winter season . Runny nose, itchy throat, congested bronchi, cough that sets in: thyme is on all fronts. Beyond its aromatic qualities, what makes thyme so strong is, of course, its fortifying and antiseptic properties.

It is by playing the role of antiseptic that thyme comes to the rescue of sore throats .

Its secret? Its phenols (also called thymols) are excellent antibacterials. As an infusion , thyme can relieve minor throat and bronchial infections ... without flinching!

This is the infusion to have in stock from autumn, if you want to calmly face the morning breeze and the first cold snaps. You can drink up to 750 ml of thyme infusion per day .

At the first sign of a cold, there's only one thing to do: whip out a cup of thyme infusion ! Guaranteed calming effect!

Our master infusers made a clever choice: working with the whole thyme leaf so that it expresses its full aromatic power once immersed in hot water. It can't be stressed enough: the cutting of the plants is crucial in allowing the plant to reveal its flavors and benefits.

To concoct our thyme herbal tea recipe, our master infusers did not hesitate to select several thyme essences:

- a red thyme , very powerful, for the decongestant effect and particularly useful during the cold season;

- a lighter and more subtle local thyme , for the aromatic note that gives our 100% plant recipe its delicious taste

- a top secret thyme to calm the organoleptic power of the first and accompany your long winter evenings

Great art. Not everyone can be a master brewer!

Who says thyme also says grandmother's recipes. Whether they dress it with honey or lemon, thyme tea is one of our grandmothers' top 3 favorite natural remedies. And groundhogs' too!

At the slightest sign of a cold snap , we reveal a seasonal cocktail that will do the whole family good.

- 1 sachet of Thyme des 2 Marmottes infusion

- 1 fresh lemon

- 1 large tablespoon of honey (if you have a sweet tooth, add a VERY large spoonful of honey and lick the spoon - when you're sick, you have to know how to enjoy the little pleasures)

Preferably choose mountain honey such as fir honey, OR thyme honey, OR eucalyptus honey.

If you don't have any on hand, any other honey will do.

Boil some water, and in a cup pour the hot water over the thyme sachet.

Squeeze fresh lemon juice into the cup.

Once the water has cooled slightly, add the honey and mix. Honey loses some of its properties if exposed to excessively high temperatures.

Drink hot.

Consume 2 cups a day to achieve the decongestant effect.

For this summer recipe with explosive flavors and an immediate boost, you will need:

- 1 organic lemon

- 4 thyme infusion bags

- 1 liter of water

- 4 cm of fresh ginger

- 4 large sprigs of thyme

- 4 cm of fresh turmeric

- a little pepper

Step 1: In a saucepan, pour the water, add the ginger and grated turmeric, 1 turn of the pepper mill then bring to a boil.

Step 2: Turn off the heat and let it steep for about ten minutes. Strain and set aside.

Step 3: Meanwhile, place 1 thyme infusion bag and a sprig of fresh thyme in each cup.

Step 4: Squeeze 1 lemon and pour the juice into the infusion

All you have to do is pour your mixture into each of the cups!

For Richard , three thymes are better than one:

"At Les 2 Marmottes, infusion is an art form... Ready for a thyme lesson? The aromatic components of a plant are not constant. The same plant growing in different locations can secrete very different essences depending on the sunlight, the climate, the composition of the soil or the altitude. The concept of chemotype, made official in the European Union in 2006, designates a distinct chemical entity within the same species.

Why tell all this? Not to be clever, but because it's the basis of our Thyme infusion recipe . The three thymes selected are all " thymus vulgaris ", but different sub-varieties used for a very specific purpose. To summarize, red thyme clears clutter, country thyme perfumes, and our third secret thyme creates the binder for the whole recipe. To develop this unique infusion acclaimed by enthusiasts, we have been working for nearly 40 years with a Spanish producer . Thyme, thyme, thyme... we won't tell you who it is!"

We wouldn't go so far as to say that our master infusers are crazy about thyme, but it's clear that they don't hesitate to slip this aromatic herb into many recipes. The most well-known of these is, of course, our 100% thyme infusion. This classic from Les 2 Marmottes acts like a breath of fresh air in your still-sleepy body... So, first thing in the morning, breathe in thyme... breathe out: the day can begin!

Our beloved thyme is also featured in the official infusion for those who feel the cold: Winter Frissons . Combined with cloves and cinnamon, it provides the boost needed to get through hibernation without a hitch. All of this, naturally, is caffeine-free.

Thyme (it again!) is also present in our now famous Après-Ski infusion . With its lemony notes that expand the lungs, you feel free as a bird and motivated to hit the slopes at full speed!

But thyme is also the garrigue, the Mediterranean, cicadas and Marcel Pagnol… That’s why you’ll find this charming plant in our On dirait le Sud infusion . In the company of Rosemary and Oregano, it immediately sets the tone!
